Photos are processed on your device and never uploaded.
How to use
Open your image
Drop a black and white or grayscale image onto the page, paste it with Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac), or click “Choose photos”. JPG, PNG, WebP and any format your browser opens all work.
Colorize automatically with AI
The built-in neural network predicts realistic colors from the image’s tones — skin, sky, foliage, clothing. It runs entirely on your device via WebAssembly (one-time 39 MB download, cached after that).
Refine with palettes or the brush
Pick one of 8 tonal styles for a different mood, or switch to the Paint brush to set exact colors on specific areas. 15 undo steps let you experiment freely.
Export the colorized image
Choose JPEG, PNG or WebP, set quality and dimensions with a live file-size preview, and download. Processing multiple images? “Download all” exports the whole batch at once.
Tips for better colorization
Use high-resolution source images
The AI reads texture and context to pick colors. A crisp, detailed input gives it more to work with — 300 DPI scans or photos at their original resolution produce the most accurate results.
Let the AI go first, then refine
Start in Auto mode to get a realistic color base across the whole image. Then switch to the Paint brush to correct specific objects — the AI handles the broad strokes, you handle the details.
Adjust intensity for the look you want
Full intensity gives vivid, modern-looking color. Pulling it back to 50–70% creates a softer, more vintage feel — useful for historical photos or artistic effects.

FAQ
- What is an image colorizer?
- An image colorizer is a tool that adds realistic color to black and white or grayscale images. This one uses a neural network that runs in your browser, so your photos stay on your device and are never uploaded.
- Does the AI colorizer work on any image?
- It works on photographs, scanned prints, film frames, illustrations and most grayscale images. Results are best on photos with clear subjects — portraits, landscapes, street scenes — because the model was trained on natural photography.
- How accurate are the AI-predicted colors?
- The neural network predicts plausible, natural-looking colors based on the tones and context of each region. It handles skin, sky, vegetation and common objects well. For specifics it can’t know — a red car vs. a blue car — use the manual brush to set the exact hue.
- Is this image colorizer really free?
- Yes — free with no signup, no watermark and no limit on the number of images. The AI model downloads once (about 39 MB) and is cached by your browser.
- Are my images uploaded anywhere?
- No. The neural network runs inside your browser via WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device — there are no uploads, no cloud processing and no storage on any server.
- Can I colorize multiple images at once?
- Yes. Add as many images as you like, apply your color style and quality settings, then hit “Download all” to export every colorized image in one batch.
- What output formats are supported?
- You can export as JPEG, WebP or PNG with an adjustable quality slider and custom dimensions (up to 4096 px on the longest side). A live file-size estimate helps you balance quality and size.
- Can I undo changes?
- Yes — the colorizer keeps 15 undo steps per image, so you can experiment with different colors and roll back freely.
